Faith’s Pen

The Faith’s Pen project is SMSU SIFE’s newest international project. Faith’s Pen is a small, impoverished community located in the mountains of Jamaica. Sitting along the only highway between Kingston and Ocho Rios are 30 small buildings known as “cook shops” where Jamaican families cook up authentic food to sell; any profit made for the food is their only source of income. Locals stop to enjoy the delicious cuisine but it is not a glamorous experience. The goal of SMSU SIFE is to help these vendors create a more pleasurable experience for both locals and international tourists when they stop by the Faith’s Pen rest stop—the only rest stop for miles. SMSU SIFE hopes to help these vendors gain more international and local tourists by using the entrepreneurship  skills we possess to provide proper education and training based on extensive marketing research conducted in the Faith’s Pen area.
